Carin Bonte

After completing her medical training in Leuven, Dr. Bonte specialized in ophthalmology at UZ Leuven and St. Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup, London, UK. After earning her certification as an ophthalmologist, she completed a one-year fellowship at Torbay Hospital in Torquay, also in the United Kingdom.

During her training, she already had a particular interest in retinal pathology, which led to several publications in international journals.

In 1998, she began working at Elisabeth Hospital in Sijsele, where she provided general ophthalmology care in association with Dr. Heintz.

Over the years, she further specialized in medical retina, which is currently her primary focus.

You can consult her for conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, vascular and inflammatory retinal disorders, for both screening and treatment with laser and intravitreal injections.

Since 2006, she has also been working part-time at the Bruges Eye Center.

Following the merger of the hospitals in Sijsele and Eeklo, she continued to work at AZ Alma in Eeklo for several years, but since 2020 she has been working full-time in Bruges.
